A Perfect Dublin Saturday

My second Saturday in Dublin was the stuff made of dreams. I had been planning this day to spend frolicking around with my homegirl CMc with the tenet that “the plan is there is no plan”. We surely succeeded in going with the flow and took advantage of some fantastic Dublin experiences along the way. Have a look at our itinerary and see how this compares to your ideal day in Dublin!

Captured during the jog... with a soft "j"
The day started with a run along the Grand Canal, one of my favorite pastimes. Because this was to be the perfect Saturday, the sun shone brilliantly as we jump-started our endorphins for the day.

CMc's professional poached egg technique
Brunch is served!
To reward ourselves for our exertions, we assembled a most delicious brunch of poached eggs with bacon, sharp cheddar, red pesto & rocket on an English muffin. Oh and mimosas of course!

Temple Bar Food Market
Llewellyn's
mmmm freshness
Gallic Kitchen oh yeaaa
We made our way into town and headed to the Temple Bar Food Market to peruse the stalls. To whet our appetite, we imbibed in a spiked cider from Llewellyn’s Orchard Produce. This was especially nostalgic for me as I have indulged this simple treat since my UCD semester days!

Temple Bar Oysters
Skeptically shucking
After a leisurely loop of the square, we parked ourselves at the Temple Oyster Bar for some fresh rock oysters and a glass o vino! The oysters were absolutely beautiful and the homemade relish gave a zesty finish! Our friends CH & SM came in to join, and were even given some complimentary wine! The staff there are brilliant and you feel as if you could spend the whole day over oysters & wine.
Crow Bar on Curved St... check it out!
Cocktails & chats
The bar at Crowbar
Soon, we were ready to move and met SB on Dame Street to continue the festivities. After contemplating a stroll around Grafton St, we opted to go for a tipple at a little spot we’d noticed on our way to the market: Crowbar. This new bar just at the side of Button Factory looked super cozy and advertised a mean happy hour, so we ventured in. What a find this place is! Cocktails are inventive and delicious, the ambiance cool and cozy and again, awesome staff! I’d definitely recommend the Margarita or the classic Sazerac.

Up on the Big Blue Bus
Pizza & a pint!
The Shaw... how I've missed you!
Feeling the call of hunger, CMc & I departed from SM & SB and headed towards the Bernard Shaw for a classic pizza & pint on the Big Blue Bus. We oft would spend late afternoons at the GBS, a classic hip spot on South Richmond St, that somehow melded into evenings! For eur11 you get a full thin crust pizza and any pint, it’s a no brainer! There’s numerous drinks specials and the vibe is always very chill.
CMc & I before The Black Door
As the evening was getting late, we trekked back to Rathmines to beautify ourselves for the night out! Our destination was The Black Door on Harcourt St., a really great spot that has live music (at just the right decibel!) and a conscientious crowd. We danced and giggled the night away, and honestly couldn’t think of a better way to close out my perfect Saturday in Dublin!
