Dublin Wine Rooms: This is the Future!

Dublin Wine Rooms in Custom House Square
My first Wednesday in Dublin was devoted to a reunion of friends (A, E, D & K) from my first job in Dublin and I wanted a place that was comfortable, low-key and with copious amounts of wine! Queue-in the Dublin Wine Rooms in Custom House Square! The DWR is a restaurant and wine tasting venue that was formerly known as Eno Wines until about two years ago. The décor is earthy, with lovely candles lit and wood accents around the bottle-filled walls.

A getting a sample
As a sucker for gimmicks, I find the neatest part of the Wine Rooms is the three electronic tasting stations. If you choose to go the tasting route, you get presented with a prepaid card to insert into each of the stations, choose the size of wine (taste, medium & large glass) and off you go! Essentially, it’s a wine credit card! If this doesn’t get the oenophile in you excited, check your pulse immediately. The staff are very intelligent and welcoming at DWR, and are more than happy to walk you through the tasting process. They are very keen to help you find your individual preference, and if any issues come up with the tastings, they are eager to rectify! You can keep topping up the card if need be, I recommend €20-30 to start to give you room for a few tastes before choosing your main medium or large glasses. The tastings ranging from 90¢ to €2, medium glasses €3.40 to 6 and large glasses €7.80 to around 13.

Ample cheese board
Myself and A sampled about three wines each and we also ordered a plate of cheeses. The cheese board was more than enough for two people, and needed some extra crostini to finish! E went for an olive medley, which was slightly on the small side. D & K abstained from the food and stuck to a liquid diet for the evening.

Olives and bread
There is no sense of rush at the DWR, setting a very homey and inviting ambiance. We felt as if we could’ve spent the whole night there, with no bother from the staff. I definitely recommend the wine rooms both as a tasting experience and as a clutch place for a cozy reunion or date.
